A mixed use warehouse.
The office is a warehouse retrofit that provides the operational base for a multi-faceted organisation.
To accommodate its activities, a series of variously scaled spaces will be created through the retrofit. The building will host a large, open plan flexible-use floor for the construction company. A smaller laboratory with direct access to the Millom Nature reserve will be used by ecologists, and a series of smaller offices will host support and managerial staff.
In line with our approach towards material efficiency and purpose, we are starting with what we find and only adjusting what is necessary.The refurbishment will provide a simple, sustainable base, which reflects the ethos of the client.
The warehouse is one of the few remaining industrial relics of the Millom Ironworks and therefore has cultural significance to the town and is deserving of restoration. A large external mezzanine affords views over the Millom Nature Reserve to the north, taking in the Duddon Estuary and the Lakeland Fells beyond.
