A set of low-carbon new build structures designed to support local socio-economic development and growth in the Lake District National Park.

Blencathra Business Centre sits in the Threlkeld Quarry Settlement, within the Lake District National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Centre is home to a set of industrial units that house small scale businesses operating locally across the national park. The units are in huge demand and the socially focused management company is expanding their offer to support further sustainable economic growth.

IDK's new sawtooth buildings increase the Centre's capacity by approximately 50%. They provide high quality, renewably powered spaces which are designed to meet the exemplary standards set by the high demands of the climate-challenged and heavily protected site. Each unit has independent access and service provision, meets flood mitigation best practice and is delivered as a customisable space. Interiors are robust and future-proofed to support the flexible and adaptable growth that is crucial to the dynamic small business environment. The buildings have been designed to be procured and built using local supply chains, labour and trade professionals, in alignment with principles of supporting and contributing to local growth and socio-economic sustainability.
